Tokyo zoo panda shows signs of pregnancy

TOKYO, Japan - Female giant panda Shin Shin eats bamboo at Tokyo's Ueno Zoo on June 26, 2012. Shin Shin has shown signs of pregnancy, a zoo official said the same day, spurring hopes the zoo might see its first panda cub since 1988. The official said Ueno Zoo will suspend public viewings of Shin Shin from July 3 due to her symptoms and observe her carefully, as pandas often show false gestation signs.

The Japanese government said Nov. 15, 2011, it will field Ishii as a candidate to head the Global Environmental Facility, a green fund linked to the World Bank and other international development bodies. If elected as chief executive officer of the GEF by its governing body in June 2012, Ishii would become the Japanese ministry's first female official to lead an international institution.
