China's Hu, Taiwan's Lien meet in Beijing

BEIJING, China - Lien Chan (L), head of Taiwan's main opposition Nationalist Party, and Chinese President and Communist Party head Hu Jintao shake hands at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on April 29 prior to their talks. The meeting is the first formal contact between the two parties' leaders since the Nationalist government retreated to Taiwan after a civil war that ended in 1949.
