Central Europe Flooding Leaves At Least 16 Dead - Prague

A section of embankment of the Vltava River is flooded in Prague, the Czech Republic, on September 16, 2024. At least three people were dead and seven others went missing due to floods caused by extreme rainfall in the Czech Republic, police said on Monday. Exceptionally heavy rainfall pounding Central Europe has prompted deadly flooding in the region, with four new deaths reported Monday in Poland, three in the Czech Republic and one in Romania. The flooding has swamped parts of Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland and Romania as a low-pressure system crossing the region has unleashed record-high rains for days, and it was expected to affect Slovakia and Hungary later in the week. Noah Lyles of the United States reacts after the men's 200m final of Athletics at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, August 8, 2024. Noah Lyles said he was "proud" to win 200m bronze after being hit by Covid-19 wrecked his bid to become the first man since Usain Bolt to complete an individual Olympic sprint double. The American, 27, claimed the 100m title by five-thousandths of a second in a historic final on Sunday. But just four days later he was helped off the track in a wheelchair as Botswana's Letsile Tebogo took the 200m crown, with Lyles having tested positive for the virus early on Tuesday morning. He kept the positive test result a secret from his rivals and emerged for the final with his trademark exuberance, bouncing onto the track. Photo by Xu Chang/Xinhua/ABACAPRESS.COM

Photo by Lui Siu Wai/Xinhua/ABACAPRESS.COM
