Audi launches highest-class model A3 Sportback car

Suzuki releases Hungarian-made 5-door Splash compact car

TOKYO, Japan - Suzuki Motor Corp. on Oct. 21 begins selling its Splash five-door compact car (photo) for the Japanese market manufactured by its Hungarian subsidiary. The 1.2-liter, 3.7-meter-long car, produced by Magyar Suzuki Corp. in Esztergom, around 50 kilometers from Budapest, is the first vehicle manufactured by an overseas unit of the automaker to be sold in Japan with the Suzuki badge.

Mazda puts new Mazda Atenza midsize car on market

TOKYO, Japan - Mazda Motor Corp. on May 20 introduced to the market a new midsize car, the Mazda Atenza, featuring low fuel consumption and emissions. The Mazda Atenza went on sale in two models -- a five-door ''SPORT'' model, which is priced between 2 million yen and 2.3 million yen, and a four-door ''SEDAN'' model priced between 1.8 million yen and 2.36 million yen. The new model is available with a newly developed 2300-cc four-cylinder DOHC engine or a newly developed 2000-cc four-cylinder engine.

Chairman Osamu Suzuki announces at a press conference at a Tokyo hotel on Nov. 16 that his company will launch a new five-door minicar called the MR Wagon, pictured behind him, on Dec. 4. It will supply the vehicle to Nissan Motor Co. starting next spring under an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) agreement. The MR Wagon is targeted at housewives in their late 20s and 30s.

New Suzuki car unveiled

For every kilometer it travels, the five-door 1.5-liter Aerio produces 0.04 grams of hydrocarbons and 0.04 grams of nitrogen oxide. Both amounts are less than half what is allowed for new cars under Japan's emissions rules that went into effect in 2000.
