Ma's Filigree Mosaic art, a city-level intangible cultural heritage in Tianjin, attracted the attention of the whole country when an accessory made with it appeared on the head of a Chinese actress during the Spring Festival Gala of the Year of the Dragon, staged by China Central Television, also called CCTV. Filigree Mosaic art, first seen in the Spring and Autumn period (770 B.C.-476 B.C.), greeted its peak season in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The craft, having a history of more than 2,000 years, goes through complicated procedures and was listed as a national-level intangible cultural heritage in 2008. Two main steps are involved in the craft, namely making filigree and making mosaic. Its pioneering twice-firing technique allows the use of multiple colors on one piece of porcelain, which is regarded as a major breakthrough in China's porcelain history. To make a Honglyucai porcelain item, it needs to go through 72 procedures, which is so complicated that the technique was almost lost in the 1980's. In 2021, the crafts of making Honglyucai Porcelain of Bayi kiln was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage. Niu Qiang, a sheepskin raft worker from Huining of northwest China's Gansu Province, has been doing the job for 27 years since 16 years old on the Lanzhou section of the Yellow River. For 2,000 years, sheepskin rafts have been used to transport goods on the Yellow River. With the development of economy and transportation, the number of rafts gradually reduces with the time, and the transportation form has nowadays become a tourist attraction on the Yellow River. Niu Qiang thinks he has inherited the ancient handwork from ancestors as other raft workers, which reflects the history and culture of people living on banks of the Yellow River.
