'Jumping' slime flounders attract visitors at Japanese aquarium

FUKUI, Japan - A slime flounder ''stands up'' for food at an aquarium in Fukui Prefecture on the Sea of Japan coast for their performance of ''jumping'' for food. Echizengani Museum staffers said the flat fish, before asking for food, ''stand'' 20 centimeters and show themselves above the surface while ''looking around'' with big round eyes.

KYOTO, Japan - Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko release young red sea breams and flounders into the sea Oct. 1 during an annual sea festival participated in by some 20,000 people in the seaside town of Amino, Kyoto Prefecture. The festival, the 20th of its kind, was organized by the prefecture and supported by the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry. It was aimed at promoting the fisheries industry and environmental protection of the ocean.
