Ford Motor Co. is spared from the expansion of the strike as its negotiations with UAW will continue. Some 5,600 workers at those facilities spanning 20 states are slated to walk off the job at noon Friday, joining the 12,700 workers who are already on UAW's strike. TOKYO, Japan - Yoichiro Kaizaki, president of tire maker Bridgestone Corp., met the press in Tokyo on Oct. 23 and suggested that Ford Motor Co. is partly responsible for highway deaths in the United States involving Ford's sport-utility vehicles and tires made by Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. His comments countered repeated arguments by Ford that tires were the cause of the accidents.
