NARITA, Japan - Four war-displaced Japanese from China leave for Beijing on Nov. 20 after a one-week search for their relatives resulted in only one of them having being identified. The group consists of a woman, 58-year-old Gu Tiefeng (2nd from R), and three men -- Han Tonglai (2nd from L), 63, Zhang Wanchang (far L), 58, and Ma Fude (far R), 58. Their ages, except that of Han, are estimates as they have no birth certificates. Only Han's relationship to Japanese kin was confirmed among three group members who had interviews with possible relatives. The other two and Ma had blood tests, and are now awaiting the results, which will take months before a final conclusion is drawn.

Actor Chosuke Ikariya of comedy group Drifters dies at 72

TOKYO, Japan - Chosuke Ikariya (file photo), an actor and leader of the Drifters, one of Japan's best known slapstick comedy groups, died on March 20 at a Tokyo hospital after battling lymph node cancer for nearly a year. He was 72. Ikariya, whose real given name was Choichi, and four other men formed the Drifters 40 years ago in 1964 and it became one of the biggest successes in Japanese comedy. In 1966, the group acted as a curtain-raiser for The Beatles' concert when the British band visited Japan. (Kyodo)
