US: Strong Winter Storm Brings Blizzard Conditions To Sierra Nevada 3

A strong winter storm hit the Sierra Nevada on Friday, March 1, bringing heavy snow and high winds. Blizzard Warnings were issued for the area, including Lake Tahoe and eastern Nevada. The Sierra Avalanche Center warned that the danger of avalanches was high. Yosemite National Park and many ski resorts in the region announced they were closing at least for the day.

KITAKYUSHU, Japan - Fans enjoy an all-night concert of popular Japanese rock group GLAY at an open air venue in the southwestern Japan city of Kitakyushu on Aug. 12. About 200 spectators collapsed after suffering fatigue and attacks of anemia, according to concert organizers. During the eight-hour concert which finished after 5.30 a.m., the high-selling four-member band performed 29 songs including an encore for the audience of some 80,000.

TOKYO, Japan - A four-member group from Tokyo Denki University sets off July 3 on a second attempt to travel around the world in a car converted to run on electric power. Masaharu Fujinaka, professor of electrical engineering at the university, and three of his students left the Kanda campus in Tokyo in the morning for Toyama, central Japan, where they will board a ferry for the Russian Far East city of Vladivostok. The 18,000-kilometer journey, expected to take about 100 days, will take them through Russia, Europe and the United States.
