Japanese university succeeds in imaging glaucoma optic nerve

Empress Michiko undergoes eye operation

TOKYO, Japan - Empress Michiko leaves the Imperial Household Agency hospital after undergoing laser treatment on Oct. 8 to relieve pressure from within her right eye. The treatment is aimed at preventing glaucoma, which is marked by increased pressure within the eyeball, resulting in damage to the optic disk and a gradual loss of vision.
