Ultra-Orthodox Jews Protest - Israel

Ultra-Orthodox Jews Protest - Israel

Israeli riot police try to move a member of a gorup of Ultra-Orthodox Jews who blocked a highway during a protest against a change of law in the army recruitment near Bnei Brak, Israel, Thursday, May 2, 2024. The Ultra-Orthodox men have been exempted from military service in Israel by law, but a change in the bill has been on the way, and a recent Supreme Court decision ordered the government to present a new proposal to force more religious men to enlist has increased the tension among the Ultra-Orthodox community. The Israeli police stopped the procession, prevented the delivery of aid, and arrested seven rabbis and activists. The activists are calling for a permanent ceasefire and an end to the human-made starvation in Gaza. Israel-Gaza border , Erez crossing, on April 26, 2024.
