BOGOTA, Colombia - Photographed on June 22, 2010, is the workplace in southwestern Colombia of a Japanese horticulturalist, Masao Tsutsui, who reportedly was kidnapped by left-wing guerillas in March. The captors, called the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, are demanding ransom for the immigrant from Japan, who went missing after leaving the place, according to sources.

Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, shown in this photo taken in Lima in December 2014, took to Twitter on April 20, 2017 to praise the operation he ordered to rescue hostages taken by leftist guerillas at the official residence of the Japanese ambassador in the Peruvian capital in 1997, two days ahead of the 20th anniversary of the event. The operation to end the four-month-long hostage crisis resulted in the rescue of 71 hostages and the deaths of one hostage, two soldiers and the guerillas.
