MOGI

MOGI

The town and coastline of Mogi is seen in the mid-Meiji Period. The pier built for the steamers to Unzen in 1901 at the edge of the cape is not apparent yet. Visible half-way along the cape is the Nagasaki Mogi Hotel, a resort for foreign visitors. It is said that crew members of war vessels harboured in the Nagasaki used to march from Nagasaki to Mogi and stay in this hotel. The sandy beach is used to dry fishing nets.==Date:unknown, Place:Nagasaki, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number109‐37‐0]

Soldiers and Women Relaxing at Oei’s Hotel

Russian soldiers relax with Japanese women in the garden of the Hotel Vesna. After Putyatin and his squadron of four Russian ships landed here in 1853, the Inasa area was used frequently by Russian visitors. This hotel was opened in November 1893, and the commander and staff of the Russian Far East Fleet participated in the ceremony. Nagasaki Harbour is visible in the background, with the downtown area, Mt. Hiko, and Tateyama.==Date:unknown, Place:Nagasaki, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number107‐4‐0]
