IH heating and evaporation equipment of the Fukuoka Industry, Science and Technology Promotion Foundation

The Practical Application Development Center for Organic Photonics and Electronics (Nishi-ku, Fukuoka City) of the Fukuoka Industry, Science and Technology Foundation (Fukuoka IST, Hayara-ku, Fukuoka City) has developed a heating method for vapor deposition using induction heating (IH) as the heat source. In the future, the center aims to commercialize this method in cooperation with equipment manufacturers. The new method was developed for vapor deposition in the production of organic thin films, for which the center has abundant production know-how (photo). The characteristics and functions of the device have been confirmed by producing organic EL elements. The development is part of an effort subsidized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's "Regional Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration Science and Technology Promotion Project Subsidy (Regional Innovation Ecosystem Formation Program). Filling machine with Yushin's FSS installed

Filling machine with Yushin's FSS installed

Yushin has released an image inspection system called "FSS" that immediately detects heat seal defects that occur when filling sachets containing liquids used for food and other purposes. Compared to manual inspection work, this system saves manpower and costs, and increases the accuracy of inspection. The FSS uses a camera to inspect the sealing part of a liquid filling and packaging machine when it is filled with liquid and the edges of the film are sealed by heating. The inspection area can be determined by setting in advance the size of the mechanism called the "sealing plate" that applies heat to the film. If wrinkles, bites, foaming, or other defects that could lead to liquid leakage are found in the sealing area, the sachet is discharged. The machine's built-in discharge device can be used, or a separate mechanism can be installed. Photo taken on May 10, 2019, credit: Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun / Kyodo News Images

Group develops energy-saving device to detoxify asbestos

MAEBASHI, Japan - A group of researchers in Gunma Prefecture said on June 3 that they have developed an energy-saving device (seen in a photo released by the group) to decompose and detoxify asbestos that uses about 80 percent less energy than the conventional method. The equipment treat asbestos with sodium chloride and the byproducts of chlorofluorocarbon destruction before heating it at the temperature of 700 C, about half of 1,500 C needed in the existing method.
