China: Ice Slowly Forms Over Flowing Water, Creating Natural Topographic Map

This is the mesmerizing moment that a thin sheet of ice slowly take shape, revealing flowing water beneath and turning an ordinary surface into something that looked like a natural contour map. On February 8, 2026, in Henan, China, the video captured a quiet winter scene as a fragile layer of ice formed over shallow water. The camera showed the surface changing minute by minute, with clear channels still moving underneath while the top gradually stiffened. Ripples traced soft lines, and the freezing process followed the subtle height differences of the ground, creating patterns that resembled the lines on a topographic chart. As the cold tightened its grip, the translucent sheet thickened, and the movement below became slower and more deliberate. The contrast between motion and stillness made the process easy to follow, and the viewer could see where water continued to run and where it had already been sealed by ice.

China: Freezing Temperatures Cause Car Window Frost In Yantai, Shandong

On December 11, 2023, in Yantai, a city located in eastern China's Shandong Province, a chilly winter morning revealed a car parked outdoors with its windows covered in a thick layer of frost. The frost resembled a delicate white curtain, completely obscuring the glass. The driver, feeling playful, lowered the window and began tapping at the ice. Suddenly, the sheet of ice broke free and fell directly into the car, creating an unexpected winter mess inside the vehicle.

Nippon Shimpo's drill used in the previous deep drilling of the Antarctic ice sheet

Nippon Shinkan (Niiza City, Saitama Prefecture) has delivered high-precision aluminum tubes to the National Institute of Polar Research (NIPR) for their deep drilling of the Antarctic ice sheet. This is the first time in 17 years that Nippon Shintube has supplied aluminum tubes to the National Institute of Polar Research since 2002, when the company supplied them to the institute's 2003-2007 drilling project. According to the Polar Research Institute, the first drill is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. In order not to collide with the rotary drill stored inside, a high degree of precision was achieved with a length of 5 meters and a bending accuracy of 0.3 mm or less. "There are no molds left. We had to redo everything, including the materials," said Takeo Kitazawa, general manager of the Technology Development Department, Safety & Environment Department, and Management Department.
