The Tomon Gate of Nishi Honganji Temple

The Karamon Gate of Nishihonganji Temple is seen from the southeast, facing northeast. The four-legged gate facing Kitakoji Street is said to have been moved from Fushimi Castle in the Momoyama Period. The shingled roof is built in karahafu style front and back and in irimoya style left and right. The gate features paneled entrance doors, lintels and frog-leg struts. Carvings of a lion and peony, peacock and pine, kirin and clouds, and dragon and clouds decorate beams. The Fujiya Hotel at Miyanoshita in Hakone was opened by Yamaguchi Sennosuke in 1878. The original building was destroyed by the Great Miyanoshita Fire of 1883. Fushimi Shrine

The main hall of Fushimi Inari Shrine is viewed from the bottom of the stairs on the east side of the offertory shrine. A nocturnal stone lantern is visible on the right. The main hall was built in 1494 and repaired by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1589. The karahafu-style building in the centre was added in 1694. The Chokugaku-mon Gate of Yusho-in Reibyo, Zojoji Temple, Shiba

Chokugakumon is a four-legged gate built in the kirizuma (gabled roof) style with karahafu (undulating bargeboard) in front and back, and a copper roof. The roof visible in the back is that of the bell tower. A see-through fence is built on both sides of the gate. The fence surrounds the front precinct of the Hall of Worship and connects to the right and left corridors of Karamon Gate. Inoue Mankichi Inoue of Nagasaki Prefecture bought a sub-temple called Yaami from Anyoji Temple at Maruyama in 1879, then renovated it in Western style and opened it as the Yaami Hotel. Many foreigners stayed here, but the building burned down in 1906. Kenshun-mon Gate at Kyoto Imperial Palace

North-northwestern view of Kenshun-mon Gate and tsuijibei (earthen wall) of the Kyoto Imperial Palace seen from the Omiya Gosho Imperial Street. The gate is a magnificent example of the mukai-karahafu style. The wall has five portals called anamon (literally, hole gates). The ground, which at present is covered with gravel, is scattered with weeds and small stones. Two men pull a cart with straw bundles.
