The Sanmon Gate,Shiba Zojoji Temple

This is Sangedatsu Gate (Sanmon), the middle gate in the temple precincts. The name (lit. three liberations) is said to refer to the Buddhist concept of release from the three poisons (greed, anger, and complaint), or to the three gates (Kuumon, Musoumon, Muganmon) in Paradise. It is said that the gate was reconstructed in 1623. Bodaitei flanked by cedar trees at Minobusan Kuonji Temple, headquarters of the Nichiren Sect of Japanese Buddhism in Minobu-machi, Minamikoma-gun, Yamanashi Prefecture. Bodaitei was a flight of 287 steps leading through the temple gate (Sangedatsumon, or Gate of the Three Liberations) to Soshido Seishinkaku.
