Demand soars for tennis star's favorite fish

MATSUE, Japan - Inquiries have been swelling with fish merchants in western Japan about the rosy seabass, shown in this file photo taken on Sept. 29, 2014, since Japanese tennis star Kei Nishikori revealed his liking for the fish at a press conference following the 2014 U.S. Open Championships in June. The high-priced fish, called "nodoguro" (black throat) in Japan, is a specialty of his home prefecture of Shimane.

Sasaki to join Seattle Mariners

TOKYO, Japan - Japanese ace closer Kazuhiro Sasaki, who became a free agent from the Yokohama BayStars this postseason, will join the Seattle Mariners, sources close to the negotiations say Dec. 18. Sasaki, 31, met with members of the Seattle organization during the week and received an offer from the American League club that the holder of virtually all the relief pitching records in Japanese professional baseball found to his liking.
