On November 5, 2025, Thailand celebrated the traditional Loy Krathong festival across the country. This year, many events were toned down or revised in accordance with the government’s request for restraint following the passing of Queen Mother Sirikit last month. In Chiang Mai, thousands of tourists gathered at a special venue outside the city, where they released countless sky lanterns (khom loi) simultaneously, creating a spectacular and enchanting scene in the night sky.
