China: Vast Algae Blanket Covers Yantai’s Coastline

This video shows a man sea fishing on a boat that appeared to glide across a green grassland, thanks to a vast bloom of floating seaweed on June 30, 2025. Parts of Yantai’s coastal waters and beaches were blanketed in algae, which floated in thick layers across the sea surface. Local authorities and scientific teams have been working to remove the algae, coordinating with fishing crews and volunteers to collect it and reduce its impact on tourism and the marine environment.
