Takahiro Sasagawa, who survived the Sept. 27, 2014 eruption of Mt. Ontake in central Japan, relates his experiences against the background of the mountain on Sept. 3, 2018. Sasagawa, a mountain guide, has been designated by a local municipality as one of eight "Mt. Ontake volcano meisters" to enhance public awareness of the danger of natural disasters through sharing his experience of the volcanic disaster, which claimed 58 lives and left five other people unaccounted for.
