The approach to Kasuga Shrine and mideums

A sessha (sub-shrine), Wakamiya Shrine which is famous for its Onmatsuri festival, is located at southeast of Kasuga Taisha. This photo was taken at the shrine approach from the Nanmon Gate (South Gate) of Kasuga Taisha facing the northerly Wakamiya Shrine with Nanmon Gate in the background. Six standing mikos (shrine maidens) and one kneeling are seen in the approach. The photographer is the same person who took catalogue #4333 and the mikos are also the same.==Date:unknown, Place:Nara, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number87‐42‐0]

Mikos (shrine maiden) at Kasuga Taisha Shrine photographed inside. It is probable that they are the same women as catalogue #4476. The hair decoration like wisteria flowers and eight layered red and white collars are the characteristic of miko attire of Kasuga Taisha. The miko in the centre holds bells whereas other six hold fans called 'hiougi'.==Date:unknown, Place:Nara, Photo:Kajima Seibei, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number84‐9‐0]
