It is the 31st year for Huang Tongwei to work as a fire lookout on a fire-lookout tower built in 1991 and perched on a peak of a mountain in Rongjiang County, Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. In 1992, Huang became the fire lookout here and has been responsible for spotting forest fires over an area of more than 80,000 mu (about 5,333 hectares) and preventing illegal logging in certain areas. After marriage, his wife Wu Zaiqiong has become his capable assistant and served as a volunteer fire lookout as well. "Although observing the forests is not an arduous work, we need to be patient, vigilant and accurate," said Huang. During fires seasons, "My wife and I will take turns eating meals.
