Snow returned to the province of Avila on Monday, with flakes beginning to fall and blanketing the area. The provincial government deployed several snowplows and dozens of workers to keep roads clear the next morning.

US: Winter Storm Warning Issued for Several Counties, WA

A cold weather system is moving through western Washington this week, bringing heavy snowfall of 2 to 4 feet to the mountains and wind gusts reaching 50 mph. In response to this major front, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Winter Storm Warning for several counties, including King, Snohomish, and Pierce. The warning remains in effect until 4:00 PM today, Thursday, January 8, as hazardous travel and whiteout conditions continue to impact mountain passes.

Syrian Army HQ Hit in Israeli Strikes - Damascus

At least five missiles struck the Syrian Army's General Command headquarters and the defense authority compound in Umayyad Square, a symbolic heart of state authority. Additional strikes hit the vicinity of the Al-Shaab presidential palace situated on a mountain overlooking the capital. The Syrian health authorities reported that at least one civilian was killed and 19 others injured in the strikes. Mt. Asama seen from Katsukake

Mt. Asama (2568m) as seen from the post town of Kutsukake, one of the three post towns of Asama-Negoshi. The Nakasendo Highway passes the southern foot of the mountain. It was after the opening of the first road built as part of the Seven Route Construction Project of Nagano Prefecture in 1883 that carriage traffic appeared. The stream is Yukawa.
