AT THE ENTRANCE TO THE CEMETERY, A BRONZE STATUE 7 METERS HIGH, INSIDE THE SEMI-CIRCLE FORMED BY THE COLONNADE OF THE MEMORIAL, FACES THE SQUARES OF THE TOMBS. IT SYMBOLIZES THE SPIRIT OF AMERICAN YOUTH RISING FROM THE WAVES. THIS STATUE IS SURROUNDED BY PEBBLES SYMBOLIZING THE DIFFICULTY OF TANKS CROSSING THE BEACH. THE WHITE MARBLE STELES ARE IN THE SHAPE OF A LATIN CROSS OR IN THE SHAPE OF THE STAR OF DAVID FOR SOLDIERS OF THE JEWISH FAITH.
