A mother,her child and a nurse

The half-naked woman on the left seems to be a nursemaid. Foreign visitors to Japan at the end of the Edo Period were surprised to see Japanese women going about half-naked in public. This custom apparently continued into the Meiji Period. This may be a souvenir photograph depicting the custom of Japanese nursing at the time.
