Usu in southwestern Hokkaido continues May 1, nearly a month since the mountain's last big eruption on March 31, as tourists watch from a lookout in the village of Toya, on the northwestern side of the mountain. Although volcanic activity has subsided at the mountain, located in southwestern Hokkaido, experts recently warned that another large eruption could still be in the offing.
