The blaze started at the Fourth Station east of the Farqalas area and advanced towards the Homs oil refinery. Local authorities implemented immediate containment measures. Major Eyad Mohammed, commander of the Homs Fire Brigade, said earth barriers were used to contain the leaking oil, adding that the large quantity of material flowing required a prolonged firefighting operation. Dozens of fire trucks and heavy machinery were dispatched to aid in the firefighting operation at the site. Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from Damascus. (XHTV)
