Indonesia s Investigates Deforestation Behind Cyclone Senyar

olice officers conduct a technical identification of a pile of wood carried by a flash flood in Menang Gini Village, Aceh Tamiang, Aceh, Indonesia, on December 16, 2025. This investigation involved experts in dendrology, dendrochronology, wood anatomy, and silviculture to determine the origin of the wood that was swept through residential areas following Tropical Cyclone Senyar. National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo confirmed that the National Police has deployed 10,999 personnel to handle the disaster in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. In addition to focusing on evacuations, the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) is currently investigating criminal elements of environmental damage. Investigators are also applying Money Laundering (TPPU) laws to trace the flow of funds from alleged fraudulent logging activities that exacerbated the impact of the flood disaster.
