Corporal María del Carmen Gómez Hurtado, who was the first female paratrooper to lead the 12-O parade while carrying the flag of Spain, during the parade on October 12 'National Holiday Day', at the Plaza de Cánovas del Castillo, on October 12, 2023, in Madrid (Spain). The events begin with the raising of the national flag and the tribute to those who gave their lives for Spain, followed by the air and ground parades of different units in which 4,177 military personnel participate. This year is the first year in which a woman unfurls the flag by parachute. The parade changes its route and the Royal Tribune is now located in the Plaza de Neptuno. In addition, Leonor de Borbón, immersed in her military training as a lady cadet, is in uniform after two years of absence due to her studies in Wales.
