Spain: La Vuelta 2025 Stage Canceled in Madrid After Pro-Palestinian Protests

The final stage of La Vuelta 2025 in Madrid was abruptly canceled after pro-Palestinian protesters blocked sections of the route, preventing cyclists from completing the traditional victory lap through the city. Danish rider Jonas Vingegaard (Visma Lease a Bike) was declared the winner, but instead of finishing at the Cibeles podium, the race ended at the Jardines del Palacio Real, around 56 kilometers from the planned finish. Protesters occupied major streets, including Paseo del Prado, clashing with riot police. Police unions criticized the government, claiming authorities had encouraged the unrest and undermined law enforcement. Demonstrators voiced anti-Israel slogans and displayed banners targeting Israeli and Madrid officials.
