Thousands Protest Land Deal - Yerevan

Thousands Protest Land Deal - Yerevan

Protersters sit during a mass demonstration against the Armenian government's controversial border-demarcation deal with Azerbaijan in Yerevan, Armenia, on May 15, 2024. Civil disobedience entered another day in Yerevan, where Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the Tavush for the Homeland movement and Primate of the Diocese of Tavush of the Armenian Apostolic Church, told reporters such actions in Armenia will continue tomorrow, the next day, whichever day is convenient. The movement, dubbed "Tavush for the Homeland," originated in Tavush following the announcement of the start of the delimitation/demarcation process with Azerbaijan on April 19. Since then, the residents of Kirants and nearby villages have repeatedly blocked roads in the area for around two weeks to disrupt the delimitation process. The movement has been supported by senior church leadership and a number of opposition political groups. Photo by Anthony Pizzoferrato/Middle East Images/ABACAPRESS.COM

Protesters argue with counter-protersters during a peaceful demonstration organized by associations, including "Kulterbrücke" (Cultural Bridge) and "Säkularer Islam" (Secular Islam) in Hamburg, Germany, on May 4, 2024. The preplanned rally was held on Steindamm Street as a counter-demonstration held by the Islamists a week prior when some individuals called for establishing strict Islamic law, Shariah, to replace German democracy. The Saturday protests were attended by several politicians in Hamburg, including Dennis Thering, the chairperson of Hamburg's Christian Democratic Union (CDU) parliamentary group. Pro-government protersters chant slogans during a demonstration staged in support of the Islamic Republic’s mandatory hijab laws in Tehran on Monday, April 22, 2024. A crowd of supporters of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s regime gathered in a demonstration in a show of support for enforcement of the Islamic dressing code in the country, after recently the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei made calls for a crackdown on women that fails to comply with the hijab laws in the country. The morality police patrols have doubled down on the streets as the number of women circumventing the dress code has increased since the protest movement, which was sparked by the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died in police custody September 2022 after being arrested for allegedly breaking the country’s hijab laws.
