A view of Yumoto with the Haya River to the left from the right side of Asahi Bridge. The road between Yumoto and Miyanoshita by Yamaguchi Sennosuke of the Fujiya Hotel was completed at the end of 1887, and electric lights came to Yumoto in 1892, so from the rickshaws and lights in the photo, we can say that this was taken after 1892.==Date:unknown, Place:Hakone, Photo:Ogawa Kazumasa, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number7‐19‐0]

This is Hayakawa River as seen between Miyanoshita and Kiga Hot Springs. The wooden bridge must be the one near present-day Tokyo Electric Kawakubo Power Plant along the Hayakawa Promenade. The roof of a building is visible at center left, but it is not clear what it is.==Date:unknown, Place:Hakone, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number98‐37‐0]

Although the tinting is different, this is the same as photographs #2807, #4481 and #4870. The rough tinting suggests that the photograph was produced in the latter half of the Meiji Period.==Date:unknown, Place:Kobe, Photo:unknown, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number92‐24‐0]

Saruhashi

Saruhashi

Sarubashi (Monkey Bridge) spans Katsura River in Sarubashi-cho, Otsuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture. This bridge is considered one of the three most unusual bridges in Japan, together with Kiso-no-Kakehashi (Gifu Prefecture) and Kintai-kyo of Suo (Yamaguchi Prefecture). It was designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty in 1932. Sarubashi is designed in hijikiketa style, which is characterized by a lack of vertical supports. This is a view of the bridge from upstream. Many people are on the bridge. The date is unknown.==Date:unknown, Place:Yamanashi, Photo:A. The presence of the wooden bridge over the river and the teahouse and the absence of a water supply pump suggest that this was taken on the mid-Meiji Period. It seems to be a scene in summer, when many visitors came to enjoy the cool air.==Date:unknown, Place:Kobe, Photo:A. A suspension bridge by the Koshu Road

This photograph depicts a river with a suspension bridge in the background. Neither the name of the bridge nor the location is known, but since the inscription says, Along the Koshu Highway, and the scenery around Katsura River was similar at the time, this seems to be the area east of Otsuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture. However, this site could not be positively identified in Yamanashi, so it may also be a scene along the highway on the Sagami side of the river.==Date:unknown, Place:Yamanashi, Photo:Usui Shuzaburo?, (Credit:Nagasaki University Library/Kyodo News Images) [Cabinet Number65‐13‐0]
