Honda launches advanced version of ASIMO robot

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows newly improved version of the humanoid robot ASIMO introduced for rental in Japan by Honda Motor Co. on Nov. 12. The latest version of ASIMO, first introduced in November 2000, moves more freely in ordinary environments, can climb and descend stairs and slopes, and can perform similar functions to those of a receptionist, as it can understand voice input and provide directions. Rental fees are 20 million yen per unit for a one-year contract, including maintenance costs, or 2 million yen for one-day use.
