China: Mysterious Cloud Spotted Over Sky Of Jinan, Shandong

This is the unusual moment that a perfectly rectangular "bilayer cloud" floating solo in a clear sky, resembling a "placed" object. On November 26, 2024, in Jinan, Shandong, the video clearly showed the cloud’s edges sharply defined against the backdrop of blue, sparking intrigue and speculation. Experts suggested that the shape might have been due to the contrails of a high-speed aircraft. When aviation fuel, primarily composed of hydrocarbons, burned, the hydrogen in the fuel combined with oxygen to form water vapor. This vapor rapidly condensed into ice crystals in the cold upper atmosphere, creating a streaking effect that from the ground appeared smooth and thread-like. While the exact cause was still a topic of discussion, it left a lasting impression on those who saw it.

One of the oldest rectangular tombs found in western Japan

NOTOGAWA, Japan - An ancient tomb in the town of Notogawa in Shiga Prefecture, western Japan, is one of the oldest burial mounds in the country with a square rear and rectangular frontage, dating from the early 3rd century, researchers said Feb. 1. The Notogawa Town Education Board, which has been excavating the tomb since December, said it has discovered at the Jingo-Kameyama Tomb site earthenware believed to date from the Yayoi period (300 BC to AD 300).

KAIWA's stainless steel vise for MC

Kaiwa (Uenohara City, Yamanashi Prefecture) has launched a new stainless steel 5-direction centering vise for machining centers (MCs) that holds workpieces from four directions on both sides of the XY axis. It is suitable for ultra-precision machining of workpieces up to 50 mm in length and 60 mm in width using a 5-axis MC. The mouthpiece is interchangeable to suit the machining purpose. Even rectangular or round-shaped workpieces can be held securely. Both Y-axis and X-axis workpieces are fixed in the center position by separate screw tightening operations. "Mr. Yamazoe says, "The unique structure of the machine, which has no internal bearing mechanism, prevents rattling even after long-term use. The clamping jig of the optional vise has elasticity to soften the impact when the machining head and other parts collide. The vise is assembled from multiple parts.
