It serves as a rich repository of historical artifacts for the study of Buddhism in China. A stone inscription, dating back to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), records the founding of the temple in the seventh year of the Yongping Era (64 AD). The temple has over 50 stone inscriptions from ancient China. The temple's abbot, Shi Yanchao, has devoted himself to the study of these artifacts and the stories they tell. These two statues were built by Takase Zenbei of Tatebayashi by order of Ota Kyuemon Masayoshi and donated to Sensoji Temple in 1687.
