In Romania, approximately 15 candidates run for one seat in the European Parliament elections, according to Romania's Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP). President of the AEP Toni Grebla announced earlier that 494 candidates had registered for the European Parliament elections. Among the candidates, 167 are women, representing 33.81 percent of the total. As the European Parliamentary elections in Romania took place on the same day as the local elections, many of the candidates on the EP lists were also running for mayor or local councilor.
