China: Trees Seem Lush in Winter, Revealed to Be Covered in Birds

On December 15, 2025, in Xuzhou, eastern China’s Jiangsu province, a video showed several trees that looked unusually lush for winter. From a distance, their branches appeared thick with leaves, even though most nearby trees were bare. As the camera moved closer, the “leaves” were revealed to be small, round birds packed tightly along the branches. They filled almost every twig, giving the trees a dense, full appearance. Occasionally, a few birds shifted or fluttered, but the overall outline remained like a giant canopy. Chinese netizens admired the scene, saying the living “bird trees” reflected the area’s improving environment.

Farmers Protest Against Government's Health Policy on CND - France

A farmer arrives in his lorry with a placard saying, In France, it s better to be a drug dealer than a farmer. In Montarreaut, Touille (31), where a herd was slaughtered, the population is rallying to support the farmer. A herd of thirty-five animals was slaughtered (or partially slaughtered) on Saturday 13 December, causing an emotional reaction among local residents. Exceptional security measures were put in place, while the community rallied to support the affected farmer. In recent days, blockades have been multiplying across France in protest against the government s health policy regarding the contagious nodular dermatosis epidemic (CND). The slaughter of 200 cows in Ariege, a decision that pitted protesters against law enforcement for two days, has reignited the controversy, on December 13, 2025, in Touille, Montarreaut, France. President of the Louvre Museum Laurence des Cars (L) looks on prior to the start of a hearing before the Senate's culture committee chaired by French Senator Laurent Lafon (R) at the French Senate in Paris on October 22, 2025. Laurence des Cars has not made any public statement since the theft on October 19, 2025. Des Cars, who became the first woman to run the Louvre in 2021, is expected to be questioned about security at the Apollo Gallery, which houses the royal collection of gems. The museum on October 21, 2025 hit back at criticism that the display cases protecting the stolen jewellery were fragile, saying they were installed in 2019 and "represented a considerable improvement in terms of security".
