Lebanon: Israel Carries Out Airstrikes Near Sidon

Israel carried out 2 airstrikes targeting alleged Hezbollah weapons warehouse locations near Sidon on Monday, February 19. Lebanese state-run National News Agency reported that "Israeli warplanes carried out strikes on the town of Ghaziyeh". The Israeli army said that the attack was in "response to to the explosion of an enemy drone, the wreckage of which was found near the Tiberias area this afternoon." This live footage shows smoke billowing as seen from Sidon.

OSAKA, Japan - Masakazu Saito, 90, tells of his experience in surviving the 1945 U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima at his home in Hanamaki, Iwate Prefecture, northeastern Japan, in October 2014, hoping to visit New York next spring to appeal for an end to nuclear arms. Saito, then an Imperial Japanese Army second lieutenant, was severely injured at a military barracks some 1.8 kilometers from the epicenter in downtown Hiroshima.

Chie Hiramatsu, a 25-year-old second lieutenant of the Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF), graduates Feb. 10 from its aviation school to become the GSDF's first woman helicopter pilot. Hiramatsu, a native of Kumamoto Prefecture, Kyushu, said she was among the first women to enter the National Defense Academy in April 1994 because she was keen on entering ''a world that had been closed to women.''
