A major fire broke out in the cargo bay of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Saturday, October 18, while a passenger plane was sitting on the tarmac nearby. Passengers evacuate as part of Narita airport fills with smoke

NARITA, Japan - Smoke fills the No. 1 terminal building at Narita airport on Dec. 26 after a fire breaks out on a moving walkway connecting the main building and the No. 4 satellite. Passengers were evacuated from the third floor, where the walkway was located, to the second floor.

Construction of 2nd Haneda terminal begins

TOKYO, Japan - A ground-breaking ceremony to launch the construction of a second passenger terminal at Tokyo's Haneda airport is held Dec. 12. The new east terminal, which is expected to cost 67 billion yen and to be completed in March 2004, will be used primarily by the All Nippon Airways group and Air Do, and the existing west terminal will be used by the Japan Airlines group and Japan Air System.
