Paracycles developed by IchiGoo

Paracycles developed by IchiGoo

Professor Satoshi Nishimura of Jichi Medical University (Shimono City, Tochigi Prefecture) and Yuko Akaba, president of TDC (Rifu Town, Miyagi Prefecture), a metal processing company, established the university-originated venture "IchiGoo" with the aim of developing devices that enable physically challenged people to live comfortably. As its first product, the company has developed the "Para Cycle" (photo), a bicycle that can be ridden by people with disabilities in one leg. The company aims to spread the product through hospitals and other institutions. The company is based in the University's Molecular Pathology Research Department, with President Akahane serving as CEO and Professor Nishimura as CTO. The Paracycle shifts the central axis of the front gear and the crank, which are coaxial in a normal bicycle, so that the gears operate more when the pedals are pushed from top to bottom with the healthy leg.
