Imperial Palace tours becoming popular

TOKYO, Japan - Visitors cross Niju-bashi, or the Double Bridge, the main gateway to the Imperial Palace in central Tokyo. Tours of the palace are becoming popular this year, the 400th anniversary of the establishment of the Tokugawa shogunate in Edo, the old name for Tokyo. Edo Castle, the seat of the Tokugawa shoguns, stood on the grounds of the palace.

This is the gate in front of the pagoda of the 9th Shogun Tokugawa Ieshige (Shunshinin). No new mausoleums were constructed after the 8th Shogun Yoshimune, so the okuin (inner shrine) of Shunshinin was attached to that of Yushouin. The Sanmon Gate,Shiba Zojoji Temple

This is the bronze gate in front of the pagoda in the deepest part of Bunshoin Mausoleum. Two dragons, once ascending and one descending, are cast on the panels on the walls on both sides of the gate. Gates were built for the tombs of five shoguns in the north mausoleum, but this is the only one made of bronze.
