Yukiko Kada poses with the traditional Malawi costume she wore to her office in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture on June 1 as part of the government's ''Cool Biz'' energy-saving campaign. Kada, who used to visit Malawi every year as an environmental researcher, says the Malawi costume is cool, inexpensive and easy to make. She says she paid 250 yen for the cloth and the costume is made simply by stitching up the armpits.
