Prosecutors raid contractors over Ozawa fund scandal

TOKYO, Japan - Officials of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office raid the office of Yamazaki Construction Co. in Tokyo on Jan. 19, 2010, over a shady land purchase by the fund management body of ruling Democratic Party of Japan Secretary General Ichiro Ozawa. The prosecutors searched the company, which was involved in subcontracts for a dam project in the city of Oshu in Ozawa's home turf of Iwate Prefecture, as part of efforts to clarify the flow of funds in connection with the land deal.
