XAI, the ultra-fine fiber proposed by Mitsubishi Chemical as a sound-absorbing material, is less than one-tenth the fineness of ordinary fibersfor sound-absorbing materials. Asahi Kasei's rigid sound-absorbing foamed products

Asahi Kasei has developed a material made of foamed polyamide hollow beads of 2 mm to 3 mm in diameter. Taking advantage of its hardness and high heat resistance, the company is proposing the material as a component for engine compartment peripherals. The material, which is less than two centimeters thick and is combined with the company's non-woven fabric "Precise," has twice the sound-absorbing property at 1,000 Hz compared to a melamine foam material of the same thickness.
