Thermoelectric power generation module developed by NEDO and NIMS.

The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Aisin Seiki, and Ibaraki University announced on April 21 that they have developed a thermoelectric power generation module, which is composed of an alloy of easily available elements such as iron, aluminum, and silicon, and converts temperature differences into electricity. The company has developed a prototype communication device that incorporates the module, and confirmed that it can generate electricity and communicate with a temperature difference of 5 degrees Celsius. The temperature and humidity information was transmitted via Bluetooth, a short-range wireless communication standard, and was successfully displayed in real time on a tablet terminal screen. SCREEN SPE Works' tablet powder removal machine

SCREEN SPE Works' tablet powder removal machine

Screen Speworks (Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture) has developed a tablet powder remover that removes powder that adheres to tablets when they are formed. The machine can process 300,000 tablets in one hour and reduce the adhesion rate to about 0.5% per tablet. The selling price is still under adjustment, and the company plans to sell the machine to pharmaceutical companies and confectionery manufacturers. When raw powder is compressed to form tablets, uncompressed powder adheres to the surface of the tablet. The powder may adhere to the lens of the camera during inspection, causing problems. The powder removal machine developed by SCREEN SPE Works uses air to remove the powder, so there is less risk of damage. Atsuhiro Hayashi, leader of the New Business Development Group, said, "Before we can commercialize the product, we need to have it evaluated by actual users. How to develop the market is our future challenge. Photo taken on July 25, 2019, credit: Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun / Kyodo News Images
