Japan - The Crown Princess (later Empress) Teimei (18841951), also known as Empress Dowager Teimei - empress consort of Emperor Taisho of Japan. The mother of Emperor Showa. Her posthumous name ("Teimei"), means "enlightened constancy". Date: circa 1908

The Accession of Empress Taisho

This is a photograph of Empress Teimei (Empress Taisho) taken at the time of coronation. She was the fourth daughter of government official Kujo Michitaka and Noma Ikuko Noma. Sadako by name, she completed middle school at the school for the imperial family and married Prince Yoshihito in 1900 and became Empress in 1912.
