Hu elected as China's vice president

Hu Jintao (R), 55, a member of the Standing Committee of theChinese Communist Party, is elected as vice president of the country by the National People's Congress on March 16. Hu is the most likely successor to President Jiang Zemin. Retiring Vice President Rong Yiren is at left.
