Matsui's Yankees one win away from World Series

ANAHEIM, United States - New York Yankees designated hitter Hideki Matsui returns to the bench after his third strikeout in the ninth inning of Game 4 of the AL Championship Series against the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium on Oct. 20. The Yankees won 10-1, taking a 3-1 series lead and are just one win away from their first World Series since 2003.

DETROIT, United States - Ichiro Suzuki was held hitless in Detroit with a walk and a strikeout Aug. 20 as the Seattle Mariners fell to the Detroit Tigers 6-3 at Comerica Park. His batting average slipped to .341, third in the AL behind Mike Sweeney of the Kansas City Royals (.349) and Bernie Williams of the New York Yankees (.343). (MLB)

Nishiguchi picks 1,000th career strikeout

CHIBA, Japan - Seibu Lions starter Fumiya Nishiguchi is presented with flowers after collecting his 1,000th career strikeout in a game against the Lotte Marines at Chiba Marine Stadium on May 4.
