TOKYO, Japan - Three crested ibises, hatched last year from eggs laid by Mei Mei, a female ibis China gave Japan in 2000, will be sent to China next month. The ibises will be sent to China in line with a bilateral agreement at the time Mei Mei was sent to Japan -- that China would have the right to the odd-numbered chicks that hatch so as to disperse the risk of extinction. Photo was provided by the Sado Crested Ibis Conservation Center in Niigata Prefecture.
